Our Beliefs

  • We believe in the Holy Trinity: God, the Father, God, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe the Bible is the Word of God. Its’ words are pertinent to us today.
  • We believe repentance involves sorrow for ones’ sins, confession, restitution and turning in obedience to the Word of God.
  • We believe in eternal assurance for believers who walk in obedience to God.
  • We believe in a visible, local church of God.
  • We believe in the following New Testament ordinances:
    • Holy Baptism  |  Matthew 28:19
    • Holy Matrimony  |  I Corinthians 7:1-40
    • Holy Communion  |  I Corinthians 11:23-20
    • Holy Kiss  |  I Corinthians 16:20
    • Women’s Veiling and God’s Headship Order  |  I Corinthians 11
    • Anointing with Oil  |  James 5:14, 15
    • Feet Washing  |  John 13:1-17

Our Practices

We believe that the Kingdom of God is a spiritual Kingdom and stands in contrast to the kingdom of this world. Therefore, our lives must reflect the principles of God’s Kingdom. We believe the Word of God to be pertinent to our lives today and base our practices on the principles therein.

  • Holiness in living: Our bodies are the temple of God therefore we cannot take part in dishonesty, enslaving habits and addictions, fornication, and adultery.
  • The Lord’s Day: We commemorate Sunday as a day of worship. Activities should be relaxing and focused on relationships. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Exodus 20:8
  • Family Structure: The husband is the head of the home and assumes the responsibility of leading his family in a Godly manner. The wife is his help-meet and supports her husband.
  • Modest clothing: Worldy fads are not for the Christian. Our dress should be a reflection of a changed life and allegiance to a heavenly Kingdom.
  • Headship Veiling for women: The covering of a woman’s hair is a symbol of submission to her authority. 1 Corinthians 11

The Mennonites belong to a larger body called Anabaptists. Anabaptism began in the time of the 16thcentury reformation when the errors of the state church were exposed. The word “Anabaptist” means “re-baptizer.” Because the state church practiced infant baptism, the leaders of Anabaptism “re-baptized” their followers upon their confession of faith.

The Anabaptists underwent severe persecution for their beliefs. Although they were hunted, imprisoned and even killed for their beliefs, they did not stop from pursuing a godly life. The painting above (the background of “Our Heritage”) is a prime example of their unbending faith. Dirk Willems was under arrest by the civil authorities and ran across the thin ice to escape. His pursuer broke through the ice and Dirk returned to rescue him, following Jesus’ command to love our enemies. This event led to his capture and eventually, his death.
